Directed by Kevin Custer, director of the band's seven-part "Making of AMERICAN SLANG" series that documented the process of recording the new album, the video for the title track features live performances from the group as well as striking black-and-white images of New York City, one of the band's many muses for their critically-acclaimed new album. Debuting globally on Pitchfork yesterday, the video for "American Slang" is the first to emerge from the band's new full-length.

The critical praise for the band and AMERICAN SLANG has been global, with outlets such as Pitchfork stating the album "ultimately proves The Gaslight Anthem are not afraid to move forward," and TIME Magazine declaring "if you like your classic rock tinged with romantic nostalgia, this quartet is the best thing on offer." Additionally, SPIN Magazine gave the album eight out of 10 stars in its lead review for July, and NPR praised the band within its "All Things Considered" feature as well as the coveted "First Listen" exclusive album stream that gave listeners a chance to preview AMERICAN SLANG one week prior to its release date. The band also recently performed their latest single, "Boxer," on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and are scheduled to make another late-night television appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on July 23.

AMERICAN SLANG was released globally the week of June 15 on SideOneDummy Records. Produced by Ted Hutt (who produced the band's acclaimed second album, THE '59 SOUND), AMERICAN SLANG heralds a dramatic leap forward for the New Jersey-based band. Tracks such as "Bring It On," "Orphans" and "Stay Lucky" bristle and burn with the spirit of soul and the artistic adventurousness and confidence of a band that has come into its own and truly found its own voice.

The Gaslight Anthem will be at Osheaga in Montreal on August 1st

<![CDATA[The Cat Empire invite you to their official global album lauch]]> http://indica.mu/en/news/the-cat-empire-invite-you-to-their-official-global-album-lauch/ http://indica.mu/en/news/the-cat-empire-invite-you-to-their-official-global-album-lauch/ Fri, 18 Jun 2010 00:00:00 -0400 Ever wanted to witness Australia’s premier live act, The Cat Empire, launch a brand new album? Now you can. Actually, anyone in the world can.

The Cat Empire will deliver a unique ‘virtual’ launch of their new album CINEMA this Sunday June 20, making them the first (known) Australian band to broadcast an Australian concert live to fans all over the world, with a one second delay.

After years of dreaming about the possibility of presenting a Global Gig, the band discovered technology, provided by local Melbourne company Rivus which would enable them to play to their global fanbase at any time. The technology was developed by a group of young entrepreneurial uni students who were friends of Felix from The Empire. The Rivus technology is commonly used to stream sporting events, but its application to music is just about to take off. The development of a broadcasting box enables the band to broadcast shows from anywhere in the world, with surprisingly little complexity.

The advent of this technology, and its accessibility opens up new possibilities for emerging bands who face limitations in touring the globe, but want to reach a global audience. It also enables bands to monetise virtual gigs through the selling of tickets to online shows.

In the case of The Cat Empire this weekend though, it is a free event, aimed at playing to an already well established bastion of fans worldwide.

“This is something we were talking about years ago, and at the time it was just a dream idea” said Felix from The Empire. “We were saying ‘wouldn’t it be wild if we could play live with people watching over the internet from all over the world?’ And now the technology actually exists to do that.”

This technology presents the perfect opportunity for The Cat Empire to simultaneously release their new album worldwide to fans in all corners of the world. They have amassed a huge following throughout Europe, UK, Canada, USA and parts of Asia as a result of years of extensive touring. Thousands of these fans will be in attendance when the band takes to the stage at a secret Melbourne location on Sunday night.

People have registered from a staggering 56 countries already to attend this event from as far as Brazil, Peru, Canada, United Kingdom, all parts of Europe, United Emirates, Istanbul, United States and of course Australian fans who remain fierce supporters of the band’s music. The band is planning future events utilising this technology where fans in Australia will be able to attend shows in other cities; from Montreal to Mozambique and everywhere in between.

There is still time to register to ‘virtually’ attend this free event which can be Streamed on home computers wherever you happen to be at 10.30pm Melbourne time on Sunday June 20.

Worldwide times for this unique event are:
Melbourne time: Sunday June 20, 10.30pm
NYC: Sunday June 20, 8.30am
Toronto and Montreal: Sunday June 20, 8.30am
Vancouver: Sunday June 20, 5.30am
LA: Sunday June 20, 5.30am
London: Sunday June 20, 1.30pm
Berlin: Sunday June 20, 2.30pm
Paris: Sunday June 20, 2.30pm
Tokyo: Sunday June 20, 9.30pm
Or to check your city: http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/full.html

To register your intention ahead of time to join us for the launch, go to www.thecatempire.com, click on ATTEND ALBUM LAUNCH and follow the prompts.

Painting while he sings has also become a staple of Joseph's impressive one-man show, with the art available for sale after concerts, in online auctions, and to help raise money for various humanitarian relief efforts, such as Haiti Relief Funds. It is unquestionably an understatement to label him as prolific a painter as he is a musician.

This summer’s festival features 11 days of non-stop entertainment, from noon to midnight, right in the heart of downtown Montreal. Several city blocs are closed to traffic, as right of way is given exclusively to pedestrians, creating a festive and secure spot with cafés and bistros, an art gallery, street performers and a musical park for children. It’s the summer celebration par excellence for people of all ages and origins, a cultural breath of fresh air, and a place for incredible musical discoveries.

"June 26-July 6. Wow, what a festival. Taking over seemingly every club, concert hall park and wide street in town are, among the 3,000 performers: Woody Allen (wow!), Leonard Cohen (wow!), Omara Portuondo, Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, Charlie Haden, Return to Forever, Katie Melua and the “Saxophone Summit” of Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman and Ravi Coltrane. Wow!" – New-York Times

“Joseph Arthur, un artiste original et singulier autant dans sa démarche artistique que dans sa façon de mener sa carrière dans l'industrie de la musique. Étonnant d' inventivité, il réussit après bien des années à rester inclassable. Attention, encore et toujours, talent rare!” - Andre Menard

<![CDATA[THE CAT EMPIRE TO RELEASE CINEMA]]> http://indica.mu/en/news/the-cat-empire-to-release-cinema/ http://indica.mu/en/news/the-cat-empire-to-release-cinema/ Wed, 26 May 2010 00:00:00 -0400 In an age when so much of selling music seems to be about celebrity and fashion, The Cat Empire have risen to be one of Australia and indeed the worlds favourite live acts through sheer musicality and the power of their interaction on stage.

Since 2001 they have amassed a huge worldwide following - selling multi-platinum albums, celebrating number 1 debuts, winning a whole load of awards, headlining the globes greatest and most prestigious music festivals, and performing on some of the world’s biggest entertainment shows like Letterman and Leno.

2010 sees the international release and world tour of Cinema, the band's fourth studio album. The album serves up a set which captures the inexorable force - and sheer joy - of their live performances, delivered in a format perfect for lounge-rooms, backyards, BBQ’s, cafes, road trips and parties all over the world. This is music which defies definition, but has a sound all of its own. They only thing we can tell you it is that it is incredibly infectious, undeniably uplifting and definitely danceable.

Cinema drops June 29th in Canada on Indica/Maple Music. The Cat Empire will be back in Quebec this summer to play at the Festival d’Été de Québec on Wednesday July 14th and at Osheaga in Montreal on Sunday August 1st. The band last stepped foot on Quebec soil in December, where they played sold-out shows with Hey Ocean in Sherbrooke, Quebec City and Montreal. To date, the band released two full-lengths: Two Shoes in 2006, So Many Nights in 2008 and a live record Live On Earth in 2009.
