Babette spent the bulk of her youth in Saint John and Belleisle Bay, New Brunswick. In her recordings it becomes most apparent that her songwriting reflects these landscapes, resulting in lush arrangements and rich atmospheres. Now aged 21, Babette's career is beginning to come to fruition as her first studio album "You Might Be Somebody" was released independently this past July. She promoted the album by touring solo across Ontario and Quebec and playing renowned venues such as the Blacksheep Inn Wakefield, QC. She will be returning to Quebec in the first week of October, this time to tour with french Canadians Caracol and Australian prodigy Kim Churchill. Her debut has received glowing reviews; critics drawing comparisons to a young Natalie Merchant and Tracy Chapman. Bob Mersereau, Author of 'Top 100 Canadian Albums' confessed to never quite hearing a voice like Babette's and that "sometimes, you just can't believe your ears". With that said, Babette is still quite young in her career but has admitted to be constantly writing and having a guitar on her lap at all times. She's so prolific she's already accomplished writing over half the second record when her debut hasn't even been out for a year. Most recently, she has been asked to sign with Australian label CodeOne Records. She just dropped her first official music video directed by up and coming illustrator W. Scott Forbes and also managed to score a finalist spot in the most recent NewSong Mountain contest. Her second album which she is currently in the process of demoing, is planned for release in Spring 2012 on Canadian label Indica Records. Babette is on the rise; with her promising performance and mature songwriting abilities, it will be exciting to see where it leads her as she continues to grow as an artist.
