Biography
On June 30th, The Franklin Electric released Oh Brother, the band’s most heartfelt album yet. The Franklin Electric’s Jon Matte has seen the person closest to him, his brother, struggle with addiction and homelessness issues for most of his life. After years of shying away from discussing his family’s story, Matte has infused the power of change and healing into his newest collection of songs. “Oh Brother is an ode to my brother and to everyone that may be going through similar issues,". The majority of Oh Brother was written in a small town on the coast of Nayarit, Mexico where Matte disappeared in the early days of the pandemic. In trying to come to terms with the challenges facing his family, Matte travelled from Mexico City, to Montreal, to Portugal to recapture equanimity. Three of the songs were co-produced by Felipe Castro in Mexico City, who Matte met on a blind studio date. At the heart of Oh Brother exists a bright light encouraging people to heal, evolve, and share their stories. “I've been lucky to have so much support from friends, family, and fans, and I hope that Oh Brother can provide that support to strangers as they overcome the challenges of their own narratives.”
