Canadian five-piece VALAIRE already made an impact in their home country and are now aiming to bring the joyful funk-infected electropop of their latest album Oobopopop to the entire planet

Last year Valaire released three amazing Singles “Whiskey Dew”, “Apata Palace” (with Kahli Abdu & Pierre Kwenders) and “By My Side” (with Alan Prater). Finally the songs are on their New Album “Oobopopop” (released September 2016, but now for streaming) after they release their videoclip for “GOLDEN RULE Do The Oobopopop”.

The release of Oobopopop, their bubbly but unpronounceably-titled album, is an opportunity to discover the leaner, meaner version of the formidable groove machine formerly known as Misteur Valaire. But fear not, the five-headed beast hasn’t lost any members, it merely simplified its name, reducing it to a simple surname. Enter Valaire, the latest incarnation of a constantly evolving band.

How could you not like Valaire? “Boogaloo” has jazz pop mixed in with funk and neo-disco to keep you boogie-ing with a smile on your face.

Montreal electro jazz funksters Valaire (they’ve dropped “Misteure”) will be making a return to Gatineau this Saturday, October 8 to present their brand new album Oobopopop at the Minotaure. The five-piece will be presenting their new show and they’ll be joined by a local act that remains to be confirmed. It’s bound to be all kinds of fun!

The fifth album from Valaire, formerly Misteur Valaire, features more of the dancefloor-friendly grooves that helped make them one of the city’s most popular alt-dance outfits. This time ‘round, they headed down to Louisiana to add even more warmth to the rhythms and they had some help from some of our province’s more accomplished musicians, most notably Montreal funk legend Alan Prater, who has worked with Michael Jackson, Cameo and Rick James.

Montreal is home to large African and Afro-Caribbean communities and, moving through the city, you'll hear the twitchy rhythms of kompa and Afropop floating from car windows and bars. On their new track "Apata Palace," Montreal five-piece Valaire pay direct homage to the sinewy bounce of afrobeats—with a little inspiration from the bacchanalian horns of New Orlean's brass bands. And Congolese Montrealer Pierre Kwenders and Nigerian New Yorker Kahli Abdu elevate Valaire's production by cleverly carving out new tempos for their vocals to sit over the densely percussive beat. And it was Abdu who helped title the track, as Valaire explained in an email to The FADER.
